PAST CAMPAIGNS
For years, we’ve mobilised people around the world to pressure companies and policymakers to end supply chain links to Uyghur forced labour. Business as usual must not continue where there is wide-scale state-imposed forced labour and crimes against humanity taking place.
FEATURED CAMPAIGNS
NOV 2023 - PRESENT — UN BUSINESS & HUMAN RIGHTS FORUM
With Uyghur organisations and allies, we brought the issue of state-imposed forced labour to the centre of the United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights.
Through formal interventions, an information stall, and direct engagement with UN officials, businesses, and civil society organisations, we ensured that Uyghur forced labour was not ignored, even though it wasn’t on the official agenda.
Watch highlights from the UNBHR Forum in 2025:
SUMMER 2024 — FASHION BRANDS OUTREACH
Together with Freedom United, we contacted 15 major fashion brands to assess how they are addressing Uyghur forced labor risks in their supply chain. Only five companies responded, and we managed to meet with just a few. We created report cards grading each company’s level of transparency and action, giving consumers a clear picture of which brands are taking meaningful steps – and which are not.
2023 - PRESENT — VW CAMPAIGN
We led a global campaign demanding that Volkswagen end its operations in the Uyghur Region. Using shareholder engagement, petitions, demonstrations, social media campaigns, and advocacy around its annual general meeting, we escalated pressure after Volkswagen released an audit of its facility in the Uyghur Region, which failed to identify forced labor. In 2024, Volkswagen announced plans to sell its operations in the Uyghur Region, including its plant in Urumchi
and test track in Turpan.
We’re continuing to push Volkswagen to move its entire supply chain out of the region.
2022-2025 SHEIN CAMPAIGN
We exposed SHEIN’s supply chain links to Uyghur forced labour. Public pressure stalled its US IPO after policymakers raised concerns, forcing SHEIN to claim it did not source cotton from China for US products. When SHEIN pivoted to a London IPO, we mobilised again, highlighting its failure to disclose risks. Evidence from our partner Stop Uyghur Genocide informed parliamentary questioning, where SHEIN’s lawyer failed to answer basic cotton‑sourcing questions and address the evidence. UK lawmakers forced regulators to closely examine SHEIN's human rights due diligence before any stock market listing.
JUNE 2023 - BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE
During its annual conference, we demanded that the Better Cotton Initiative address member companies linked to Uyghur forced labour, including Luthai, Texhong, and Huafu, through social media. Public pressure (and private engagement with BCI and its member brands) led to Huafu’s removal as a member in August 2023. Texhong issued a letter to brand partners but remains a member.
2022-2023 URBAN OUTFITTERS
We campaigned for Urban Outfitters (and its brand Anthropologie) to eliminate Uyghur forced labour risks across its supply chains.
We brought our demand to Urban Outfitters through petitions, demonstrations, company engagement, and social media.
In response, Urban Outfitters claimed it has stopped sourcing cotton from the Uyghur Region, but has failed to make a real commitment to end Uyghur forced labour across its entire supply chain.
WINTER 2022 — BEIJING OLYMPICS
During the Beijing Winter Olympics, we challenged corporate sponsors over their links to Uyghur forced labour.
Through global protests, petitions to the International Olympic Committee, the I Will Not Watch campaign targeting broadcasters, and advocacy for a diplomatic boycott, we increased international pressure for corporate accountability.
